Peter Randle (Staff 1965 -1996)

Returning to his alma mater (Algonquin Composite School) in 1965, Peter became a multi-sport coach in hockey, football and track with the Trojans. Peter Randle was the founder of the annual East West Hockey game which is still an important event in each school year locally.

Besides teaching, Phys. Ed, Peter also dedicated substantial time and effort to ensure that high school sports were available to athletes across the District, Province and Nationally. Examples of his work are: convenor for three OFSAA hockey championships, OFSAA Hockey chairman for 7 years, NOSSA Rep to OFSAA for 15 years, Canadian High School Hockey Commissioner for 6 years, President of NDA and NOSSA both as a teacher and coach.

Peter’s efforts were recognized in 1991 when he was inducted into the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame for his contribution to hockey as a player for McMaster University and as long time Trojan hockey coach. 

Statistics do not do justice to the positive impact that Peter had on all of the staff and students that he came into contact with over his teaching career. He had a long-standing relationship with students long after he retired.

Richard Allan ‘Rick’ Galbraith

Rick was in the first graduating class of West Ferris in June 1971 and the first recipient of the John Hardwick Award for the Male Athlete of the Year.

Rick had an enduring love of sports, playing hockey and football competitively throughout his life. He played varsity football at Wilfrid Laurier University (then Waterloo Lutheran University) and later shared his passion for sports in his career as a physical education teacher. He eventually transitioned to teaching Grade 7 and 8 at Meaford Community School before becoming a vice principal and principal, retiring in 2006 as the principal of the same school. His commitment to his community extended into his retirement, as he found joy in volunteering and serving as Meaford Rotary President.

Rick met the love of his life, Lynda Bishop on the dance floor in the early ’70s, and together they danced their way through life until her passing in 2007. Rick passed away on Oct. 21, 2024 after a ten year struggle with Parkinson’s disease.

Robert W Dods aka “Willy” or “Doober”

​It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Robert W. Dods on Wednesday, March 30, 2022.

Beloved husband of Shirley, cherished Father of Alex (Kellilyn), adored Stepfather of Jenn and Lorraine (Sabin and Jon), devoted Grandfather of Samantha and Ava. He is also deeply missed by his sister Diane (Jeff) as well as other relatives and his many close friends.

He is remembered for his outstanding service and involvement in Pointe Claire Curling Club, many other curling associations and Beaconsfield Men’s Slopitch. Bob embraced his retirement and was living life to the fullest. His love of life, family and friends is greatly missed.

Visitations were held at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Home in Pointe Claire on Thursday, April 14 and Friday, April 15, 2022.
